After School Conversation Starters

WITH THE HOLIDAY SEASON NEARING AN END AND SCHOOL CHILDREN SETTLING INTO THEIR NEW SCHOOL YEAR, IT CAN BE A CHALLENGE TO GET MORE THAN A GRUNT OR MONOSYLLABIC REPLY FROM THEM AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL DAY

words: Mindy Cook

So the intocraft team have designed a fun, easy-to-play ‘conversation starters’ template which includes 40 questions to kick off those after-school conversations with your child or grandchild – that’s one question for every school week of the year.

Learning about your child’s school day will never feel like pulling teeth again!

Simply download the pdf sheet, cut out each ‘pencil question’ and place them all into a jar, shoebox or even a pencil-case.

Together, you can randomly select a question every school day or just one a week. We’ve included four blank pencils on which you to create your own questions.

FACT
Open-ended questions invite children to explore their curiosity about how the world works. With open-ended questions, children develop a feeling that parents and teachers trust them to have good ideas, can think for themselves and contribute in valuable ways. This contributes to the child’s development of autonomy, confidence and engagement in activities and the world around them.
