Cathy Greschke from Bellbird Paperarts creates gorgeous cards using a bokeh technique for the background to great effect.
If the term bokeh is new to you it is best described as the blurred background in photographs that focuses your attention on the subject. In photography, dots of out-of-focus light appear as soft spots. Cathy creates a coloured background with a stamp pad then applies white stamped dots to create a similar effect.
Here is a series of images showing her at work creating the bokeh effect.
Bellbird Paperarts is a regular exhibitor at our craft events. Below is a selection of lovely cards by Cathy using other techniques taken at our Scrapbook Expo in Brisbane.
In 2016 the Brisbane Scrapbook Expo will be held on June 10 to 12, 2016 – save the date now!
Cathy is a retailer of papercraft supplies and is passionate about art, paperarts and card making, with a retail shop in Victoria. She jokingly says she “was born with a paintbrush”.
At our craft events, her demonstrations with her bokeh demonstrations – a technique which has become somewhat of a trademark. captivated the audience.
When asked what else is popular in the paperart world at present, Cathy cites die cuts, but is also seeing watercolour as a huge trend, as well as gold leaf and multi-media – stencils, texture pastes inks and so on. At the shows, Bellbird Paperarts concentrates on stamps and cards. The shop has been around for almost 20 years, testimony to Cathy’s passion for papercraft.
