‘By the Block’ Book Review
Review by Marianne Roberts
‘By the Block’ is a delightful new book by Siobhan Rogers. There are 18 easy-to-make modern quilts, and each project is beautifully photographed and has clear, easy instructions. There’s lots of variety, with different shapes, including curved piecing – even the quilt backs are inspiring! Siobhan has even included a wedding quilt – with a modern twist. Siobhan explains in her introduction, “I developed the designs in this book for people like my (time poor) students, because By the Block concentrates on making quilts using repeats of a single block, simplifying the construction process.” Handy, full-size templates for four of the projects are supplied on a pattern sheet at the back and all the projects are pieced – plus Siobhan’s colour choices are fresh and modern. Whether you’re new to patchwork or simply looking for new ideas, it’s a good addition to any crafter’s bookshelf.
