Gorgeous table decorations
MOST OF YOU READING THIS WILL RESIDE IN THE SOUTHERN HEMISPHERE AND KNOW CHRISTMAS DAY AS BEING SYNONYMOUS WITH HOT, HOT, HOT WEATHER!
words: Mindy Cook
This often needs careful consideration when decorating the table on festive occasions. I recall the last time our family did a ‘winter’ Christmas theme… In 30-something degrees, my super-mum slaved all morning over a hot oven as it roasted the turkey and obligatory veges, then she set the table with pine cones sprayed with faux snow, fruit mince tarts, holly, bowls of cranberry sauce, shortbread biscuits and, for an artistic touch, candles using individually scooped-out squash (the vegetable) as their base. We went away for a couple of days later that evening and upon our return, found the squash that had been left on the table, decomposing in the Summer heat and starting to rot the antique mahogany table under them. She, and the table, never fully recovered…
So the lesson here is by all means decorate your festive table to your heart’s content, but if your decorations contain organic materials, remember to place them on something that will protect it. For a fresh food decoration idea – for any occasion – we just love this Summery Pineapple Vase DIY and, thanks to Geneva Vanderzeil and her team, you can find it over on her blog, apairandasparediy.
