Jane Dávila’s Quirky Mix of Media
Jane Dávila is, by her own admission, a bit of an oxymoron – a girlie girl, good with power tools and an obsessive compulsive free-spirit.
This rather quirky personality mix, along with her career in a former life as a print maker, may just be the perfect formula for her fibre and mixed media artwork.
Jane switched to fibre and quilting in the 1990s but still incorporates many printmaking techniques in her work. Her experience of living in Peru in the 1980s has had a lasting impact on her appreciation for the diversity of cultural expression and iconography which, as a theme, frequently shows up in her work.
Jane has also authored and co-authored a number of books for C&T Publishing including her latest, Jane Dávila’s Surface Design Essentials. She is a frequent contributor to Quilting Arts and Cloth Paper Scissors magazines, and has appeared on The Quilt Show with Alex Anderson & Ricky Tims, as well as several episodes of Quilting Arts TV. She has presented on two instructional dvds, one on Art Quilting Basics and the other for Quilting Arts – Mixed-Media One Page Book.
Jane is travelling from her home in Connecticut, near New York City to the Scrapbook & Papercraft Expo in Brisbane, as a special guest appearing on the Sunday and Monday, where she will conduct exciting mixed media workshops. Jane will then be a guest artist at the 2013 Sydney Craft & Quilt Fair on the Unique Stitching stand.
