Natalie May – A passion for papercraft
Natalie May has clocked up over 14 years teaching and working in the papercraft industry and is more passionate than ever about her profession thanks to her recent trip to the United States. We spoke to her about the trip.
Each January marks one of the most exciting times on the papercrafting industry calendar – Creativation hosted by The Association for Creative Industries and held in Phoenix, Arizona. The event is recognised as one of the largest creative industry trade events in North America and it is where all the latest trends, innovative products and creative minds can be found.
“For many years I have been envious and excited for those I know who have been lucky enough to attend Creativation,” Natalie admits. “When the event is on I’ve been known to spend hours trawling through Instagram and Facebook posts to see the latest product releases and see who all the ‘cool kids’ are hanging out with and hoping that one day I would be able to get there myself.”
Natalie continues excitedly, “This year was my year! As part of the team from Paper Rose, I headed to Phoenix for a whirlwind trip meeting amazing retailers, talking about Paper Rose, demonstrating and showing off our Aussie products.” Even the long work hours, endless airport delays, terrible coffee and dragging 120+kg of luggage through seven airports could not dampen Natalie’s enthusiasm for the event. “It was everything I thought it would be and more. I was thrilled to catch up with a few of the ‘cool kids’ that I have worked with in the past and spend a little time chatting and making memories. I was also very lucky to slide into a class with Tim Holtz, which was just awesome.”
What Natalie really loved was checking out all the fantastic new trends that will be hitting shelves in 2019. “Cutesy stamps and dies are on trend – think sloths, avocados, cacti and more. Lawn Fawn and La La Land in particular have hit the nail on the head with their new collections,” Natalie reveals. “Make-up tools such as brushes and sponges are being released by Jane Davenport and numerous stamp companies. We R Memory Keepers have released a fabulous new machine that will blow you away as will the new Gemini Junior Electronic Die Cutting Machine that has just hit our shores! Paint pouring is still super popular and foiling is HUGE! There are also new Distress Oxide Sprays from Tim Holtz that are just divine!”
Natalie May Scrapbooking will have a great range of new products at the Craft & Quilt Fair in Adelaide as well show specials from Ranger, Lawn Fawn Stamps and La La Land Stamps and a massive range of Paper Packs from Vicki Boutin, Stamperia, Mintay, Graphic45 and more! There will also be daily demonstrations of Boom Gel Paint Pouring.
