Shell and Button Collage
IF YOU HAVE A FEW LOVELY SHELLS AND SOME OLD BUTTONS LANGUISHING IN A DRAWER AT HOME WHY NOT PUT THEM ON SHOW IN A SIMPLE WHITE SHADOW BOX FRAME. HERE’S WHAT I DID WITH MINE.

You will need:
Note about glues. Selecting a suitable glue is essential for this project. I wanted a fast-drying glue that was easy to apply. Hot glue for the large pieces allowed me a few seconds to arrange the piece before it set, and gave a nice bed of glue to increase the surface area actually touching the background. The buttons needed glue which could be applied to a precise, small spot. First I tried PVA but the paper became too wet and started to bubble. Super glue worked well. Papers may vary – please test your glue and paper to make sure you get the desired effect – that is to stick well without being too messy, without staining the paper and showing up in blobs around the shells and buttons.
Note about paper. Your paper needs to be thick enough to withstand quite a lot of glue. I used a heavy weight artist’s paper.
*Only ever use old discarded shells, never collect any which have live animals in them. |
