Stitched Art
We first saw the work of Cathy Jack Coupland in a small piece on display at the Australasian Quilt Convention (AQC) some years ago. Cathy’s trademark is vibrant colour and meticulous thread painting. Her passion for colour injects joy and excitement into the work.
It’s no surprise that Cathy is now an award-winning embroiderer, quilter and exhibiting artist. Her work features lively, original and unique design. She favours free machine embroidery which covers the entire surface of her work which has been featured in magazines and exhibited internationally.
Cathy won the Margaret Oppen 2013 Prize (Tutors and Past Winners) with the Embroiderers Guild of NSW. She is part of the Quilters Guild of NSW Valuation team and was one of the Judges at the 2015 Sydney Quilt Show. See more of her work on pinterest.
Since that first encounter with Cathy’s work, she has made a deliberate move to create larger and even more striking pieces and visitors to AQC this year will have the chance to view two of her works in the Quilt Show. Cathy will also teach her techniques at the event. To book a place with Cathy, visit the website www.aqc.com.au
Footnote. Cathy’s Happy Houses design has been chosen to feature in our Craft & Quilt Fair ads during 2016. Visit www.craftevents.com.au and go to Craft & Quilt Fair, for details of these events.
