An installation of embroidery by members of The Embroiderers’ Guild of NSW Inc. delighted visitors to the Sydney Craft & Quilt Fair and now the display will travel to Queensland where it can be viewed at the Brisbane Craft & Quilt Fair.
Swinging circles of colour created from millions of stitches in embroidery hoops make up this inspiring installation. Viewers are able to walk in and amongst the hoops which bob and sway with stitch and colour.
Members of The Embroiderers’ Guild of NSW were given a brief by expert embroiderer Mary Brown and responded to the challenge. Every hand stitch imaginable and a myriad of techniques including beading, appliqué and freehand machine work were represented in the pieces.
