Magnificent Embroidered Textiles
IN 2011 DIJANNE CEVAAL EMBARKED ON A PROJECT ENTITLED THE SENTINELLES – AN EXHIBITION WHICH ORIGINALLY CONSISTED OF A NUMBER OF LARGE PIECES BY DIJANNE SOME OF WHICH YOU CAN SEE IN THE CURRENT DISPLAY.
She then hand printed smaller panels that could be bought by others to create embroideries, and each purchaser of these hand printed panels could embroider or embellish the pieces in their own way. The resulting contributions by stitchers throughout France and Australia led to Dijanne hatching a plan to exhibit them. This attracted more attention and women from Switzerland, England and the USA also embraced the project.
Each piece explores aspects of the earth and each sentinel deals with aspects of the environment. The term Sentinelle infers watching over.
“I am so grateful to all the wonderful women who have created these pieces, who have put so much of their heart and soul into the pieces and who have graciously agreed to let them travel the world so that you can enjoy them.”
Dijanne has recently returned from a successful exhibition tour with the Sentinelles in France. This moving display can currently be seen in Australia at the following craft events before returning to France by popular demand.
