Musings in Textile
I LOVE TRAVELLING – EVEN ARMCHAIR TRAVELLING IS A WONDERFUL THING AND WHEN COMBINED WITH BEAUTIFUL TEXTILES, EVEN BETTER. IN HER NEW BOOK MUSING IN TEXTILE: FRANCE, DIJANNE CEVAAL SHOWS HOW HER TIME SPENT IN FRANCE HAS INSPIRED HER TEXTILE ARTWORK. review: Judy Newman |
Dijanne lived in France for almost a year in 2010 and the volume begins with a peek into her travel journals and the way ideas are kept and sometimes become fodder for future development into textile designs, even years down the track.
But the real charm of the book is seeing how photographs of statues, architecture, artworks and even animals and still life shots become the inspiration for Dijanne’s linocuts, prints, embroideries and textile works.
The accompanying dvd has instructions for the various techniques used in Dijanne’s textile work making the complete package from idea, to design development then details of the how-to. Rather than feeling like I want to recreate Dijanne’s designs, I’m excited by the insight into her process of moving from design inspiration through to design development and execution; a lovely journey. Thank you Dijanne for sharing with us.
